Software Release Information – Recalibration

15 April 2025

We are currently rolling out new features in a software update for both the Clinician Portal (v2.7.0) and Patient App (v2.11.0). With one change affecting the sEMG signal, it is highly recommended that you recalibrate BiSSkApp on your patients’ devices before continued use. This can be done in-person or remotely on a video call.

Any questions? Our team are happy to help. Click here to reach out to us via email.

Why do we need to recalibrate the sensors?

This software update includes changes to the sEMG signal that make it more accurate and sensitive, ensuring the biofeedback recorded is as precise as possible. These changes in sensitivity mean a new baseline measurement for each patient’s swallowing activity is required.

What happens if I don’t recalibrate my patients’ sensors?

Your patients will still be able to use BiSSkApp like normal, but the waveform will not be as accurate to their swallowing activities, and there may be noise issues.

What if I am unable to meet my patients to recalibrate in person?

You may be able to recalibrate the sensor with your patient over a video call. Below is a tutorial to walk you through the process.

How to Recalibrate Remotely

Please note: this requires that both clinician and patient both have an internet connection and access to a video call platform. It should take around 15 minutes.

  • Before a video call, open the clinician portal and head to your patients profile, and settings.
  • Toggle on ‘patient calibration’, and press the save button. If it’s already on, great.
  • Jump on a call with your patient and have them apply their sensor, open BiSSkApp, and share their screen.
  • Direct your patient to BiSSkApp’s calibration button, and have them turn their body or the device so they cannot see the waveform. This ensures they are swallowing as naturally as possible, so the sensor can get a true baseline of the patient’s swallow.
  • Give your patient verbal instructions to stay still, swallow, and push the ‘done’ button, following the calibration process as prompted.
